Mahama Assures PIAC of Accountable Use of Oil Funds for `Big Push’

President John Dramani Mahama has assured members of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) that oil revenues earmarked for his proposed $10 billion “Big Push” infrastructure initiative will be efficiently disbursed and managed.

Parliament recently passed the Petroleum Revenue Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was subsequently assented into law by the President John Dramani Mahama on April 2, 2025.

The amendment mandates that the entire Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA) be directed exclusively toward the ‘Big Push’.

This is expected to fund legacy projects across the country.

The amendment is a significant shift from previous allocations across multiple sectors, which critics say diluted the impact of oil revenue spending.

President Mahama gave the assurance when members of of PIAC paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The delegation led by Chairman of the Committee, Mr Constantine K.M. Kudzedzi congratulated the President on his recent election victory and discussed matters concerning the management of Ghana’s oil revenues.

President Mahama outlined his government’s ambitious plan to invest $10 billion over the next five years, allocating $2 billion annually, into priority infrastructure projects across the country.

These projects will target key sectors, including roads, major bridges, education, and health infrastructure, as well as areas vital for boosting productivity in the agriculture sector.
