President John Dramani Mahama has appointed a new nine-member governing board for the Minerals Commission in line with Article 70 of Ghana’s Constitution.
Four Members of Parliament including the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, are inclusive the nine-member board.
The reconstituted board re-enforces government’s commitment to professionalism, gender inclusion, and strategic leadership in the mining sector.
The Board will be chaired by seasoned legal practitioner Mr. William Ntow Boahene, Esq., and includes a diverse blend of lawmakers, traditional leaders, academics, and legal experts. Mr. Martin Kwaku Ayisi, Esq., the current Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, will serve on the Board in his ex-officio capacity.

The composition meets the statutory requirement of gender inclusion, with at least two female members—Nana Adwoa Foriwa and Nana Yaa Gyindoh I, bringing traditional leadership perspectives, alongside Emelia Ankomah, who adds both legal and parliamentary experience.
The Minerals Commission plays a critical role in regulating and managing the use of Ghana’s mineral resources. As the sector evolves to accommodate sustainability, local participation, and environmental protection, the newly constituted Board is expected to provide strategic direction, ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, and strengthen investor confidence.
