My role as Chamber of Mines CEO will deepen fight against galamsay- Ken Ashigbey

Dr. Ing. Kenneth Edem Ashigbey, the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, has reiterated his commitment to the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) even as he assumes the role boldly declaring that his stance on the issue remains resolute.

According to the Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, his leadership position at the Chamber will only deepen his resolve to push for responsible and sustainable mining practices in the country.

Dr Ashigbey who gave the assurance in an interview on Tuesday 10, June, 2025 said his new role presents greater opportunities to influence industry players and coordinate more impactful engagements.

“There is an alignment between the Chamber itself and ensuring that Ghana mines sustainably,” Dr. Ashigbey noted. “So, I am not sure that much will change. I am just hoping that my colleagues on the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey would also step up to the plate and take some of the responsibility.”

The Chamber he said will now serve as a strategic platform for stakeholder dialogue and advocacy.

“The only thing that you might see happening a lot more is that by virtue of the opportunities given to me, a lot of the engagement with the stakeholders will be using the Chamber as the vehicle,” he explained.
