Each Metropolitan, Munucipal and District Assembly (MMDA) in the country will receive a minimum of Ghc 25 million this year, Finance Minister, Dr Casiel Ato Baah Forson has announced.
Briefing lawmakers on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, 3, June 2025, about releases of statutory funds, the minister revealed that an estimated Ghc 987,967,073 first quarter release of 2025 has been made to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for onward distribution to the various assemblies for their development activities.
Dr Foson who is also the Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Esiam constituency gave a breakdown account of how the assemblies are expected to expend the releases.
The assemblies are expected to utilise 10% each to cover projects covering the design of a model market, Community Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compounds, educational facilities, portable water projects specifically, 10-boreholes and school furniture.
Addionally, 20% of the releases of the assembly are expected to be expended on uncompleted projects by the now defunct development authorities, the Northern, Middle Belt and Coastal Development authorities.
Dr Casiel Ato Forson also charged the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund to ensure that 80% of the transfers are released to the assemblies in accordance with dictates of the law.
The Finance Minister also announced that all statutory payments including releases to the National Health Insurance Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) covering January to April, 2025 have been made.
All the lawmakers who spoke commended the minister for the releases.
