Krachi West MP Helen Ntoso sworn-in as a member of SEC Board

The Member of Parliament for Krachi West, Helen Adjoa Ntoso has been sworn-in as a member of the Governing Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In a facebook after her swearing-in, Hon Ntoso expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the confidence reposed in her as his nominee to serve on the SEC Governing Board.

  • “I am most grateful to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic, for appointing me as his nominee to serve as a member of the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which was inaugurated today by the Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson
  • The Commission is mandated to oversee securities exchanges, brokers and dealers, investment advisors, and mutual funds. Its core functions include promoting fair dealing, ensuring the disclosure of important market information, and preventing fraud.
  • It is also responsible for investigating infractions against the Securities Industry Law, rules, and regulations, as well as handling complaints lodged with the SEC.
  • My motivation for serving on the Board is driven by the opportunity to contribute to protecting taxpayers’ money and enhancing confidence in Ghana’s financial markets”.

The reconstituted SEC Governing Board is chaired by Dr Antwi, a former Director-General of the Commission.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson who inaugurated the board on May 19, 2025 said the Commission is critical to maintaining stability within the country’s financial sector, particularly in light of recent economic difficulties.

He expressed confidence in the board’s ability to uphold regulatory standards and foster investor trust.

“I am exceedingly pleased to see this board come to life. Ghana has endured significant economic stress in recent years, and our people are rightly concerned.

He explained that “as the regulator of our capital market, the SEC bears a critical responsibility to restore confidence, integrity, and dignity in the sector.”

Dr Forson charged the board to prioritise accountability and robust regulation in its dealings insisting that Ghanaians must no longer suffer the consequences of systemic regulatory failures.

“The taxpayer cannot continue to be used as a punching bag. The public must no longer bear the burden of regulatory failures. This new board must act with focus and integrity to protect investors, promote transparency, and uphold accountability across our financial markets.”
