It was an atmosphere of joyous celebration amidst drumming, dancing, and merry-making on Thursday, April 17, 2025, as the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu in the Central Region, Osahen Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, paid a historic visit to his paternal ancestral home of Tsiame, located in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.

Thousands of elated residents, including chiefs, elders, school children and religious leaders gathered at the durbar grounds to warmly welcome their illustrious son back to the land of his forefathers.
Afenyo-Markin, a respected politician, lawyer, and businessman, has earned admiration across the political divide for his philanthropy and commitment to national development.

The lawmaker took the opportunity to donate 100 sewing machines and 100 hair dryers to support women’s empowerment in the Tsaime community.
He explained that the donation was a supportive effort to the MP for Keta, Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, aimed at positively impacting lives and improving livelihoods in the area.

He emphasized that he has long engaged in discussions with Mr Gakpey about the development of Tsiame and other parts of Keta.
Encouraging the beneficiaries to use the equipment meaningfully, Afenyo-Markin said the initiative was intended to help women become economically self-sufficient and better able to provide for their families.
He was quick to clarify that the gesture was not politically motivated and should not be interpreted as a move to contest the Keta parliamentary seat, either on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or as an independent candidate.
Osahen reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Effutu, his maternal hometown, whom he currently represents in Parliament.
The Minority Leader strongly urged recipients not to sell the donated items but to use them as tools for income-generating ventures to improve their living standards.

The event was chaired by Ing. Dr. Togbi Edem Kenneth Ashigbey, CEO of the Ghana Telecommunications Chamber and a native of Tsiame.
In his remarks, he encouraged the people of Tsiame and its environs to rise above political differences and focus on the development of their community.

MP for Keta, Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, expressed gratitude to Afenyo-Markin for his generosity and urged other natives of the area to emulate the kind gesture. He also echoed the call for unity and collective effort toward the development of Keta and the entire Volta Region.
He further advised beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly for their own benefit and that of the community.
Tsiame, a town rich in cultural heritage, historically served as the traditional military headquarters of the Anlo State. It is renowned for its ancestral legacy, where warriors once gathered and prepared for battle.
