Biakoye MP Advocates Support for Adum Market Fire Victims

The Member of Parliament for Biakoye in the Oti Region, Jean-Marie Formadi, has called on individuals, philanthropic organizations, and corporate bodies to support victims of the recent fire outbreak that devastated the Adum Market in Kumasi.

Contributing to a statement made by the Member for Subin regarding the disaster, the Biakoye lawmaker highlighted the crucial role traders play in the country’s economic development.

Addressing claims that the fire was caused by frequent power outages, Ms. Formadi cautioned against premature conclusions, emphasizing the need to await official investigations.

She pointed out that market fires can result from multiple factors, including cooking with open flames, and urged authorities to intensify monitoring efforts to prevent such incidents.

She also called on the Electricity Company of Ghana to take its monitoring responsibilities seriously to detect and prevent illegal electrical connections.

The Biakoye MP commended the Chief Executives of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) and the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) for donating GHC 100,000 to support the fire victims.

Additionally, she praised President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership, compassion for the victims, and commitment to building modern markets nationwide, describing him as a “builder of markets.”
