Expectations by Ghanaians and the business community in the country are very high as Minister for Finance, Dr Casiel Ato Baah Forson presents the Economic Policy and Budget statement for the year ending 31st December 2025 before Parliament today Tuesday 11 March 2025 on behalf of the president of the republic, John Dramani Mahama.
This will be President Mahama’s first major economic blueprint since regaining the highest office of the land after the December 7, 2024 General elections.
Dr Forson is expected to outline President Mahama’s key policy directions and economic strategies aimed at stabilizing the economy, fostering growth, and addressing the country’s fiscal challenges.
Key among the major expectations of the 2025 budget will be the removal of several unfavourable taxes Mr Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to scrap during the campaigns leading to the polls in December last year.
These include the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), the COVID-19 Health Levy, and the tax on Betting winnings.
The Mahama administration has consistently pledged to ease the tax burden on individuals and businesses while implementing measures to stimulate economic recovery.
The removal of these taxes is expected to provide relief to mobile money users, businesses, and individuals engaged in online betting.
The 2025 budget is also expected to outline specific initiatives meant to reduce the cost of living and doing business in line with 24-hour economy promised by President Mahama.
Other major epectationsof the 2025 budget is the need for a dedicated focus on job creation, infrastructure development, and social interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians as part of the Resetting Agenda of President Mahama.
