President of the republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has nominated the Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana as deputy minister designate for the ministry of Lands and Natural Resorces.
Alhaji Sulemana is a distinguished development Finance and Tax Analyst, banker, and politician with many years of experience.
He is expected to bring his rich experience to bear in assisting the minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to help execute the president’s mandate to the people of Ghana.
Profile of Alhaji Yusif Sulemana (MP)
Alhaji Yusif Sulemana is a distinguished Development Finance and Tax Analyst, banker, and politician with extensive experience in the financial and legislative sectors.
Academically, Alhaji Sulemana is currently pursuing a PhD with a research focus on taxation.
He holds an MPhil in Development Finance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), an Executive MBA in Project Management, and a BSc in Administration specializing in Banking and Finance from the University of Ghana (UG).
Additionally, he is a trained teacher, having graduated from the Tamale Training College.
Professionally, Alhaji Sulemana serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole/Bamboi Constituency, a role he assumed in January 2017 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after being elected as the parliamentary candidate in 2016.
He has been re-elected in 2020 and 2024, reflecting his unwavering commitment and dedicated service to his constituents.
While in Parliament, he has been a ranking member of the Select Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism, chair of the Savannah Regional Parliamentary Caucus and member of the Public Accounts Committee, amongst others.
Before entering Parliament, Alhaji Sulemana was the Manager for Projects at the Export Trade, Agriculture, and Industrial Development Fund (EDAIF, now Ghana EXIM Bank) from 2013 to 2016.
Prior to that, he held various roles at the Export Development & Investment Fund (EDIF), including Zonal Manager for Tamale, Senior Export Development and Promotion Officer, and Senior Credits and Projects Officer between March 2010 and April 2013.
His earlier career includes a tenure at UNIBANK Ltd, where he served as Client Relationship Manager and Personal Banker from 2004 to 2010.
He also worked as the Country Coordinator for Educate Africa Totally, a USA-based NGO, from 2002 to 2004.
Alhaji Sulemana is a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Development Finance and the Institute of Directors, Ghana. He has also actively participated in various associations, including the Gonjaland Students Association, where he served as National President from 2003 to 2004.
Additionally, he was the Organizing Secretary for the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of NDC-UG Branch and the Chairman of the Commonwealth Hall Muslim Students Association.
Born on 29th July 1972 to Mr. Sulemana Adams, a farmer, businessman, and tractor operator, and Hajia Fati Braimah, a trader.
Alhaji Sulemana’s life journey is a reflection of resilience and determination.
His formal education began after completing Quranic studies, as Western education was initially frowned upon in his community.
He completed his basic education at Bole Junior Secondary School and later attended Damongo Secondary School for his O’Level.
The deputy minister designate is a devoted family man, married with four children—two sons and two daughters.
His eldest son is currently pursuing a medical degree at the University for Development Studies.
