Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekm, the Minister of State-Designate for Special Initiatives has hinted of his commitment to prioritise the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank aimed at spporting women-led business innovations should he get the nod.
Mr Agyekm who is the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South gave the assurance when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday 28, January, 2025 for his vetting.
He indicated that the establishment of the bank is a promise the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama made to the people of Ghana during the 2024 campaign hence, will be executed as a priority as a stand alone financing enterprise for women entrepreneurs.
“If I have the opportunity, it is one of the key things I would like to roll out as soon as possible. It is a promise we made to most Ghanaians.
“For example, a woman in Nkoranza today will be sitting there and will ask me about the promise made by John Dramani Mahama during the campaign on the establishment of the Women’s Bank so they have the facility to do their business. I think it is a promise we made to Ghanaians, and we have to do it as soon as possible,” Mr Agyekum stated.
Mr Agyekum is optimistic about the bank’s potential to transform women-led businesses and promote inclusive development across the length and breadth of the country.
The Women’s Bank, is a flagship initiative of the NDC, is designed to empower women in business by providing tailored financial products and resources.
It is expected to be managed only by women, focusing on addressing the specific challenges faced by women in entrepreneurship and various industries.
The initiative has been hailed as a step towards enhancing economic inclusion and addressing gender disparities in access to financial resources, especially for women in rural areas.
