The Minister designate for Lands and Natural Resources for the West African nation of Ghana, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has stated that, the discovery of critical minerals provides an a rare opportunity for the country to change its narrative.
According to the nominee, the time has come for the country to learn from its past experiences and see the green minerals as the much waited lucky chance to ensure value addition in order to increase export earnings and change the economic fortunes of the country.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah said these when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for interviewing for the job.
“New Minerals are an opportunity to change the narrative, we must add value to the things we have advantage in to change our story” he said.
Background
Ghana has recently discovered graphite, lithium and other critical minerals in large quantities. These discoveries are critical for the contry’s energy transition agenda beyong fossil fuels, as these minerals are crucial inputs to green technologies.
The contry’s energy transition framework identifies graphite and lithium as future opportunities for state revenue.
The new Lands and Natral Resorces minister designate assured of his commitment to lead job creation in the sector and ensure that revenue from minerals inure to the interest of all but not just a few.
He also emphasised the need for Ghana to go to appear before each negotiation table prepared in order to secre the best deal for all citizens.
