Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has been appointed acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) by President John Dramani Mahama.
He has also been given an additional responsibility to set up the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), a key promise by Mr John Mahama during his campaign in the lead up to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The establishment of the GoldBod will be under the direction of the Minister of Finance designate, Dr Casiel Ato Baah Forson if approved by parliament as the sector minister.
The GoldBod, one topmost priority of the Mahama administration aimed at ‘raking in’ the much needed forex to stabilise the cedi in the short term and for the rapid revitalisation of the Ghanaian economy.
It is also expected to be responsible for the sustainable management and marketing of the country’s gold resources for the benefit of the Ghanaian people.
The Goldbod will among others formalize the small-scale gold mining sector and provide mining support services for the industry.
Mr Gyamfi’s appointment was contained in a statement issued on Thursday night by the acting Spokesperson to President Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi is a Legal Practitioner and Economic Policy Analyst and holds a BSc in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana.
He also holds a Barrister at Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law and an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
Mr Gyamfi is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School with Executive Certificates in the Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership Programmes.
