The West Africa nation of Ghana has made a giant stride towards its energy transition agenda following the renaming of the Ministry of Energy to now Ministry of Energy and Green Transition by President John Dramani Mahama immediately after resuming office.
Players in the energy sector and environmental and climate change advocates lauded the move stating that it will ensure much attention is given to the exploitation of sustainable energy sources to augment the country’s energy mix as the world shift from dependence on fossil fuel.
The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is a global imperative which presents challenges and opportunities for resource-rich countries.
Oil and gas dependent countries such Ghana are expected to adapt their model of economic governance to manage their resources more effectively and become more resilient to global changes that threaten to leave citizens behind in the energy transition efforts.
Minister-designate for the new Energy and Green Transition Ministry, John Abdulai Jinapor is expected to lead Ghana’s sustainable energy revolution when approved by parliament and takes office in the coming days.
