Environmental Protection Bill Receives Parlimentary Passage

The West African nation of Ghana has made a significant stride towards safeguarding the environment in the wake of devastating effects of climate change.

The country’s legislatures on Thursday January 2, 2025 passed into law, the environment the Environmental Protection Bill which is expected to receive immediate presidential assent before the eight year tenure of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ends on January 6.

The landmark piece of legislation aims to address the increasing global environmental issues and promote sustainable development across the nation.

Passing the bill, the Ghanaian lawmakers from both sides of the political devide emphasized the importance of safeguarding’s natural resources and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah who was presiding over proceedings said, ” Hon. members, the Environmental Protection Bill 2024 is now read for the third time and passed.”

The Environmental Protection Bill includes provisions for stricter regulations on industrial emissions, waste management, and deforestation. It also outlines measures to promote renewable energy sources and encourage eco-friendly practices among businesses and individuals.

The passage of the Environmental Protection Bill marks a new chapter in Ghana’s commitment to environmental stewardship. With this legislation in place, the nation is poised to make significant strides in protecting its natural resources and promoting a sustainable future.
